Royal Academy of Music presents Rudi Martinus van Dijk Conductor's Masterclass with Jac van Steen and Anthony Marwood

On July 4th and 5th, 2026 the Royal Academy of Music in London presented a weekend of conductor’s masterclasses on Stravinsky’s Piano Concerto as well as Rudi Martinus van Dijk’s Violin Concerto led by the celebrated Dutch conductor Jac van Steen and British soloist Anthony Marwood on violin with a mixture of professional string players and student musicians from the RAM. Two conducting masters from the RAM, Carlo Antonioli and Daphne Delfas, were given the opportunity to conduct both works. This gave them the experience of working with two different pianists studying at the academy as well as working with an international soloist. The weekend was made possible by a grant from the Rudi Martinus van Dijk Foundation in an effort to also introduce Van Dijk’s music to a new generation of artists. The weekend was a great success and many of the students enjoyed getting to know and perform Rudi’s music. Several students came up to me afterwards asking how they could get a hold of his scores. This weekend was a great opportunity for Jac van Steen and Anthony Marwood to rehearse the Violin Concerto with a student orchestra before recording the work for CD with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff this autumn.
